Learning To Live In Translation
Hola...Bonjour...Hello

Welcome to Learning To Live In Translation!
Here, words cross borders.
This space is for anyone who has ever tried to politely escape the enthusiastic ramblings of a stranger - in a language you are not yet fluent in —or blushed after accidentally mispronouncing a word into something wildly inappropriate.
It’s for the dreamers, the expats, the language lovers, the parents raising bilingual babies, the teachers navigating cultural nuance, and anyone who’s found themselves building a life in a place that once felt foreign.
In Learning to live in Translation, I’ll be sharing real stories from a life lived across languages and cultures.
Expect posts on:
Humor in the hard stuff, and beauty in the messy middle
Buying homes, battling bureaucracy, and surviving paperwork in another tongue
Starting a business abroad — the chaos, the curve-balls, and the wins that feel huge.
Giving birth and parenting abroad
Celebrating birthdays and holidays far from “home”
Losing loved ones and finding ways to grieve without the words you’re used to
Making friends from scratch, and building community in unexpected places
The joys and jolts of being “new,” and the quiet magic of becoming local
Teaching and learning languages (sometimes with a laugh, always with more knowledge)
Some weird and strange experiences - because life isn’t just 3D
Whether you’re a fellow foreigner, a curious linguist, or just someone who loves stories about life lived with heart, hilarity, and a good dose of humility—you’re welcome here.
We live, we learn, we translate.
And somewhere in all that, we become.
C Simone
