Kevin ✨️ thanks so much for reading & for your in depth comment & appreciation. You're right often the pay doesn't reflect the value given to society.

Therefore some teachers like myself became part of middle leadership/ heads of subjects which boosts our pay. I was so happy my 1st boss in my first year of teaching gave me the opportunity to do this as an MFL leader / Co-ordinator. I got to experience teaching again in France & creating international partnerships because of him! Merci beaucoup R.Singh!

You're also right the rewards outweigh the challenges for many teachers (that I know personally) yet there are also a lot of teachers who struggle in their personal lives due to letting all the emotional side, workload & work politics take over their own wellbeing. Some have to take 6 months & more off work due to stress. Some feel lonely and misunderstood labelled as "glorified babysitters" when this is totally not true.

To answer your question, I miss elements of teaching in schools like my amazing colleagues 😀 thankfully still in touch with some & teaching a variety of subjects as now I focus mainly on teaching English and also have done some French teaching. Yet, teaching online is so much more flexible and I thoroughly enjoy teaching adults!

Were there any teachers who stood out for you during school years?

Appreciate your comment as the saying goes - ¡Muchas gracias de verdad!✨️

Hi C Simone! Lately, notifications haven’t been coming through consistently, so I’m just noticing your reply now — I didn’t get a notification and only caught it while commenting on your latest article.

I’m really glad to hear you’re enjoying your online teaching experience and the flexibility that comes with it.

I do have a favourite teacher. In Grades 11 and 12, I was part of a pilot Family Studies course. I’d always liked children, so I enrolled in the program, and I was also invited to serve as a student representative on the steering committee with the board of education. The program itself was outstanding.

Our high school even had a preschool centre on site, so part of the curriculum was hands-on work with the preschoolers, along with specific assignments and activities. My teacher had young children of her own and was deeply invested in the program’s success. The best part, though, was the lively discussions around parenting — she was an excellent facilitator.

I wrote a piece about that experience some time ago and ended up unpublishing it, but I should put it back up so you can take a look. I think you’d really enjoy it.

No worries at all Kevin, it has happened with my notifications too, yet my app has no new updates so glad to know it’s not just me 😊

Firstly please do republish it, I’d really like to read that for sure.

Your experience on the pilot Family Studies course sounds like it is a fond memory of yours and to have met a wonderful teacher during it definitely makes it stand out more!

Reading this reminds me of the conversations in our English class with our teacher, he was such a kind man dressed in the same grey suit each day with a typical Beatles style haircut like John Lennon. I saw him during my 1st year of teaching at a training centre and he looked actually the same, like I had transported right back to that classroom yet now I had joined the teachers’ club... He brought lessons to life and I’ll never forget him or any of my other favourites.

Thanks for sharing and looking forward to reading that piece you mentioned!

It always interesting how we remember the person and not slide deck!

I've sent you the link in a DM, but I could have just put it here. lol

As a pre school teacher for 20 years I fully relate to the balance it brings when you’re fully appreciated from both child and parents. I mean sometimes they though I was and imagery friend, they talked about me at home that much.

I felt honoured, purpose fulfilled and all that great stuff that comes with teaching, as you know and shared.

And the beautiful part and synchronised part… I was literally going to write my next article about my gratitude to teachers, that’s how I know synchronicity is just that more real. ✍️☯️

Thank you for reading & sharing your experience too LV! ✨️

20 years of preschool teaching that's amazing, such a special stage of development for children.

I can imagine how much your students loved you! 😀

This is synchronised 💯 there must be an energy for teachers needing more appreciation in the atmosphere! I'd love to read it, carry on the love ☺️

Thank you for sharing these insights, C Simone.

Teaching can be a tough and demanding role in many ways. Often, the pay doesn’t reflect the value it brings to society. And, as you touched on, it’s a role where there’s little room for a “bad day”—physically or emotionally—because you’re on stage, delivering for kids every single day.

Even then, the rewards frequently outweigh the challenges. Watching young people grow, develop, and gain confidence as knowledge and skills take root is huge. You clearly approach the work with seriousness and compassion, and I’m glad things ultimately worked out for your daughter, even with the mix-up and class reassignment you described.

So, I am a big yes to recognizing and thanking teachers for continuing to step up to the challenges and develop the next generation of learners.

Well done, and thank you for your personal contribution in this field.

Now that you have been teaching online for a number of years, are you missing the classmoom at all or ever thought of going back?
